Bound for Russell County, Virginia

Today I am tying up a few loose ends at work and packing my suitcase for an anxiously awaited trip to Virginia. I plan to spend two weeks tromping through the mountains visiting relatives and meeting some that I have never known.

First stop is in Bluefield, Virginia where my 86 year old mother, Lucille Davis Buckland, lives. Hopefully, she and my brothers will go with me to the SUTHERLAND/ KISER reunion – on Saturday, August 2, 2008 / 10 am in Cleveland, Virginia.

The annual Sutherland-Kiser reunion has been expanded this year to include the descendants and related familes of Daniel and Phoebe Fuller Sutherland and Joseph Jr. and Mary Childress Kiser.

THAT WOULD INCLUDE ME!

I have corresponded with Becky Chafin and Shirley Fields via email, so I look forward to meetin’ these cousins face to face.

The goal is: “connecting with the future and remembering the past.”

The next weekend, August 8th – 9th is the JESSEE family reunion. On Saturday from 10am-4pm, we will gather at the Harry l. Coomes Recreation Center in Abingdon, Virginia. This is their 9th annual national Jessee family reunion & picnic. Ye-ha!

… hot dogs, snacks, and soft drinks. …they are hoping to have a family band with area musicians, and welcome those with musical instruments to join the fun. …a place will be available for those cousins wishing to share family display
